Busy Day

Granny Bean and Grandpa Jar had a busy day today. We took James and Eli to Cochrane for a visit to MacKays, then we went to a playground, then to Rabbit Rise, then to the Hawks soccer game ( Ryan plays and Lorisa coaches ) and the Panthers soccer game ( Brennan plays ). What a fun filled day!

The Arts

I have been privileged to attend a plethora of artistic performances in the last few weeks. Jan and I saw an entertaining musical at Lunchbox Theatre and following this enjoyed a Thai buffet lunch on Stephen Avenue. Tom, Bev, JR and I heard Yamandu Costa give an amazing performance with the CPO on his seven string guitar and preceded this with dinner at "Saltlik". Pat and Audrey and JR and I dined at "Petite" and then enjoyed Mozart's Don Giovanni opera with original music and lyrics but set in a modern office building. It is truly a masterpiece when it can transcend the centuries and remain relevant and exciting. Carmen and I enjoyed Rossini's Armida at The Met in HD. In the live performance from New York you see all the facial expressions, the musicians fingering and backstage interviews. This is truly wonderful and I enjoy our time together. Christine, Dennis, JR and I attended the world premiere of Love Lies Bleeding, an outstanding ballet with music and lyrics by Sir Elton John and Bernie Taupin and brilliantly choreographed by Jean Grand-Maitre, the artistic director of Alberta Ballet. JR and I followed this with Abbamania at CPO and The Putnam County Spelling Bee at Theatre Calgary. We have also seen several movies lately , the most notable being Sweden's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Norway's Max Manus. This will be our cultural fix until the autumn!
